We will discuss local fiber production, regenerative farming, "slow fashion", natural dyeing, and why it all matters. During the demonstration you can try your hand at spinning sheep wool, weaving with wool and upcycled fabric, explore natural dyeing techniques with local plants, and take home a small project.
We work closely with Grove School, FFA/4H families, and regional fiber producers and artists to support "slow fashion" and sustainable farming.
Goals:
Raise awareness of the regional fibershed we live in and how "fast fashion" affects our global climate, economic inequities, pollution from fabric waste, and how to impact these with regional resources.
Climate impact project is addressing:
Increasing heat
Increasing drought/water shortages
Increasing health threats
Loss of biodiversity
Increasing weather-related disasters
Rising greenhouse gas emissions
Loss of genetic diversity in livestock
Instructions for participants: Participants don't need anything but if they want to purchase additional wool for spinning it will be available.
