Members of Braemar Cooperative Apartments and neighbors are invited to the Braemar Garden & Grove for a hands-on experience in setting up a neighborhood compost site. We'll learn what we can and can't compost, how to create a compost pile, and how to care for it. This will be a site for the surrounding neighborhood to bring food waste and help create beautiful, healthy soil that you can access for your garden and plants. There will be a get-to-know-your neighbor and coffee social time as we gather.
We anticipate this to be the kickoff of an ongoing and growing neighborhood composting system that educates while enriching depleted soil and building community in our neighborhood.
Goals:
To educate, inspire and motivate Braemar members and neighbors as composting becomes a necessity in our city, to give participants knowledge and tools for backyard and home composting, and to establish the Braemar Garden as a neighborhood compost site.
Climate impact project is addressing:
Increasing drought/water shortages
Food insecurity
Rising greenhouse gas emissions
Instructions for participants: All ages are welcome. Garden or work gloves, jeans or clothing appropriate for garden work, some lifting may be needed for those willing and able, but not required. Participants encouraged to bring containers of kitchen food "green" waste (nothing cooked with oil or bones please).
