Come join us for aof fun at the museum! The San Bernardino County Museum is a nationally accredited institution in Redlands that serves 80,000 people a year. We tell the community’s stories, YOUR stories, and take pride in serving the public. In partnership with the San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District and the Inland Empire Resources Conservation District, we would like to welcome YOU to help us break ground on the revitalization of our native plant garden and ethnobotany garden. You will have opportunities to plant seedlings, remove turf, and learn about pollinators and indigenous foodways. We will have activities for children, including art and crafts, and a paper-making workshop for adults.
The first 50 participants will have their entry fee covered by our partnership with San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District.
After the first 50, participants will need to pay for entry. The museum fees are: Adults: $10, Seniors/Students: $8, Children 5-12: $5, 0-4: Free, EBT card holder: $1
Goals:
To add more native plants to our ethnobotany garden that would tell a story of the traditional uses of plants as food and medicine.
To remove turf and add plants that are drought tolerant.
To teach our community about water-wise native gardens, how to care for plants, and show just how beautiful they can be in their own gardens.
Climate impact project is addressing:
Increasing heat
Increasing drought/water shortages
Loss of biodiversity
Instructions for participants: All participants are advised to wear gardening clothes and to bring gloves and your favorite gardening tool! Children are encouraged to participate!
