Come join us for a fun filled morning as we gather fresh citrus fruits for our local Community Food Pantries!
Bring the whole family to teach them sustainability as we save these delicious fruits from being wasted.
Every year, 10's of thousands of pounds of citrus fruit is available thru private property owners who have citrus fruit trees on their properties. The Inland Empire is the birthplace of California's citrus industry and of the Washington Navel Orange. We "Gleaned" (another word for picking) 48,000 lbs. last year from these private properties and donated it all to local Feeding Agencies throughout the Inland Empire.
These trees are nature's filters for absorbing CO2 and releasing oxygen, plus they filter pollutants from the air, provide habitats for wildlife, and attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. And!! They provide delicious fresh citrus fruits to many families and individuals that are in need! It's a Win! Win! For everyone!
We will be picking citrus fruits from the many trees on the Burrage Mansion property. Please dress as if you would be working in your yard. Wear closed toe shoes, cover your shoulders, bring garden gloves, if you have them. If needed we have some gloves that we can share. Dress for the weather. We will still pick if its a little misty.

Time: 9 to 10:30 AM
This project offers a guided medicinal plant walk through a California native garden, highlighting the role of local plants in sustainable, accessible medicine. Participants are invited to slow down, observe, and learn how native plants have long supported community health, ecological balance, and place-based healing traditions.
The walk introduces a selection of California native medicinal plants, focusing on their traditional and contemporary uses, basic identification, ethical harvesting practices, and cultivation for home and community settings. Emphasis is placed on sustainability—working with plants that are well adapted to local climates, require minimal resources, and support pollinators and biodiversity. By centering native species, the program demonstrates how medicine can be grown in ways that care for the land rather than extract from it.
Accessibility is a core value of the project. The walk is designed to make herbal knowledge approachable and relevant to everyday life, emphasizing simple, low-cost ways people can engage with plant medicine, whether through gardening, tea making, or relationship-building with plants in their neighborhoods. Language is inclusive, and the program welcomes participants of varying experience levels, from beginners to seasoned gardeners and herbalists.
This walk is appropriate for folks 16 years and older. Wear comfortable garden-friendly shoes, sun protection, and bring a water bottle. While a companion hand out is included, some people like to take a few of their own notes, so a notebook and pencil is advisable. Please let the host know if you have any allergies, especially to plants or pollens. Parking is available at the Brockton Apartments, and the walk will start on the Brockton side of the garden.
