Project Host: Inland Harvest and Riverside Food Rescue
Location: Burrage Mansion, 1205 W Crescent Ave, Redlands, CA 92373
Time: 9:00 to 11:30 AM
Inland Harvest and Riverside Food Rescue have teamed up together with the help of many volunteers for many years gleaning (harvesting fruit from the trees). In 2023, we were able to glean 43,000 pounds of citrus fruits and avocados that were donated out to local community food pantries that help those in need.
In honor of Redlands Earth Day, we will be doing our workshop at the Redlands Historic Beautiful Burrage Mansion, which has about 800 citrus fruit trees. We will be picking the fruits that are ripe for harvesting and, also, will be helping build berms around the base of the citrus trees (like little bowls) to minimize the amount of run-off water and reduce water waste.
Please join us by helping pick these beautiful fruits. All the fruit picked will be donated out to local non-profit organizations that will be donating out to families and individuals in need.
All are welcome including children!! Please bring water bottles, hat, gloves, closed-toe shoes and dress comfortably in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. See you all soon!
Inland Harvest is a all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization for 35 years!

We will have experienced gardeners there to answer your questions and give you advice. If you've already adopted a plot, this will be a time to plant with others in community and with advice.
You can park in our parking lot, but will need to walk uphill to the garden. For those with mobility needs there is a smaller parking lot off of Olive Avenue that is on the same level as the garden.
If you plan to work your adopted plot, bring whatever tools and materials you need! We will have irrigation supplies, but not plants. Our tools may be limited and old :-)

Time: 9 to 11 AM
Do you want to learn how to create a sustainable rain garden for your home? In this workshop, we will design, build, and plant a small rain garden in a residential yard in two hours flat. A rain garden is a depressed area in the landscape that collects rain water and reduces runoff. You can create a simple one with rocks to help store water in the soil, or plant native grasses and flowers for a beautiful display that supports local pollinators. The same steps you use to build a rain garden can be used to build a swale or dry creek bed. We will talk about where to do it in your yard, where to get materials, and how to build it, then we'll build one together!
Wear good footwear and bring gloves, water, and a hat. You will be digging and lifting small rocks. It's a small project so not too strenuous, but it's good to be prepared! Children over 5 are welcome.
